I came to realize that to create a link, I need to have text-on-the-page, highlighted, before I can turn it into a link. I had been clicking on the link button, but could not find a way to enter both the URL (easy) and the displayed text…
Having created a link on my home page (to Wikipedia 🙂 I realized that I do not want my site visitor to lose track of my site. There may be a more clever way, but by editing the html for the block, I was able to insert “target=_blank” into the <a href> phrase, thus forcing a new tab when my visitor follows the link. (And there is a clever way – there’s a Link Settings down-arrow, and open on new tab switch…)
I would like to adopt a “policy” (style) of local links being direct jumps (e.g., About), and external links being new-tab, but I suspect this is too tricky to automate.
